Q&A: Black & White or Coloured Logo?

transcript

So today’s question is from a customer asking, “when doing your branding, what is going to be the best? A one colour logo or a multicolour logo?” And about 90% of the time I’m going to answer them save both.

So when I’m designing a logo I take into consideration what the logo will look like in a one colour and a multicolour. This is just for in case the customer needs a one colour logo.

For example, say the customer wants to print NCR books or delivery notes, most printers can only print these books in a one or two colour value. When I’m designing the logo I designed the logo in monochromatic values.

So starting from a 100% black, I go down to 75%, then 50% and then 25% values. This gives your logo a bit more depth, keeping it readable and still only sticking to one colour value.

Another good example of this is signage – say you want a signboard outside your building, printers are going to recommend using graphic vinyl. It’s more durable than full colour printing but the graphic vinyl limits you to what colours you can use in your logo – it all depends on what graphic vinyl the printers have available.

So with my final logos, that I supply the customers, will almost always be in full colour but I also keep in mind that I’ve designed this logo to be a monochromatic value. If they do request that it, I can always give it to them.

Whether you’re designing your own logo or you’ve actually asked a professional to design your logo for you, always keep in mind, what is the scenario that your logo is going to be in?

I hope that answered your question. If you have any other questions please leave a comment below and I’ll either answer you directly or I’ll even make a video of it. Thanks for watching. Please remember to Like and Subscribe for more great videos until next time keep safe.
